The Special Leave Policy contains information for managers and staff regarding leave for:
All Special Leave, whether paid or unpaid, will be granted subject to the requirements of the service. The number of days of paid Special Leave allowable will be pro rata for part-time staff. Where staff work ‘long days’ or irregular working patterns, the calculation of leave will be in hours, in line with the methodology for calculating annual leave. The provisions apply to all staff regardless of length of service, unless otherwise stated.
Maternity Support Leave, Maternity Leave, Adoption and Foster Leave
Staff are entitled to the above forms of leave providing they meet the specified length of service and other criteria or other relevant terms and conditions. Please see the individual policies for details of how to apply.
Special Compassionate Leave
Authorisation for special compassionate leave (including carer’s leave) must be sought from the line manager at the earliest opportunity. If there is no prior notice of the need for time off, the normal departmental procedure for notifying absence should be followed.
Further period(s) of unpaid leave may be granted at the manager's discretion where annual leave has been exhausted or is already fully committed, subject to the needs of the service.
